Pyrenees Shire Council is seeking feedback on the draft 2024-2028 Onsite Wastewater Management Plan (OWMP).
This is Council’s second OWMP and was developed after an extensive review of the original plan and consultation with key stakeholders.
Under the Environmental Protection Act 2017, Council is required to have an OWMP to protect public health and the environment whilst supporting growth and development in unsewered areas.
If your property has an onsite wastewater system (septic) or you have a property that is in an unsewered area which might need one in the future, this Plan will help you to understand Council’s role as well as your responsibilities.
A key strategy that has been carried over from the original plan is the continued implementation of a risk-based inspection and monitoring program. This program focuses on properties in the special water supply catchment areas and high-risk unsewered township areas.
An updated community education program will also be implemented, targeting existing and new property owners, and focusing on responsibilities for proper management of onsite wastewater systems.
We have consulted with and incorporated feedback from our key stakeholders including Central Highlands Water, Goulburn Murray Water, and local Catchment Management Authorities.
You can read the draft OWMP 2024-2028 online here on the Engagement Hub, via Council’s website at https://www.pyrenees.vic.gov.au/owmp or you can find a hard copy on display at Council’s office at 5 Lawrence Street, Beaufort.
If you have feedback that you would like to share with Council, written submissions are open until 5pm, Friday 31st May 2024.
Feedback can be provided via the Contact section on this Engagement Hub page, via Council’s website at https://www.pyrenees.vic.gov.au/owmp by email to pyrenees@pyrenees.vic.gov.au or mail to Pyrenees Shire Council, 5 Lawrence Street, Beaufort 3373.
