Do we need an off leash dog park in Beaufort?

Project Overview

Council is seeking input from residents, business owners and visitors to help us understand community interest in an off leash dog park, and to identify potential locations and / or design requirements.

Pyrenees Shire residents have a relatively high rate of dog ownership with over 2,200 dogs registered in the Shire.

An off leash dog park could potentially be used by visitors travelling between Melbourne and Horsham, encouraging people to stop at Beaufort.

Dog parks have proven to be a fantastic means of social connection for dogs and their owners. Dogs that are well socialised and exercised are likely to be healthier, happier and less aggressive. Designated off leash dog areas provide a safe community setting where dogs can play with each other in a controlled environment.
